We design, develop and market insurance products for the underserved market. We are particularly focussed on the township, rural and informal settlement market. We currently have products designed to protect the home & business assets our chosen markets. The traditional insurance market choses not to insure these homes and businesses because: they are built in ‘unstructured’ areas meaning that they do not have a formal address; they are not built by ‘adequately qualified’ contractors with no involvement of engineers or the municipality; but more importantly these homes do not exist on the municipal valuation roll or the national property deeds registry which means that replacement values of these homes are unknown. We have designed a novel way to cover these properties and businesses through our business Sugar.
