Biochar is a biocarbonous material important in carbon sequestration, soil amendments, improve crop yield, retention of soil moisture and improve the soil PH
Solidaridad working with small holder cotton farmers are making Biochar made from cotton stalk to fertilize cotton fields and generate farmers income through the sale of carbon Stokes made by carbon sequestration process when apply biochar in their fields
This helps mitigate huge carbon emissions done by cotton farmers when they cut and openly burn stalks during field preparation
It is believed that 10 million of cotton stalks (Biomass) is burnt instead of being used in carbon sequestration, soil amendments and increase cotton production.
Biocharing to increase cotton production whilst carbon sequestration program is working with 400 smallholder cotton farming to increase production, mimic nature, sequentrate 900,000 metric tones of carbon and and increase farmers income band through the sale of carbon Stokes.
