Smallholder Data Services Making data into a valuable farm product

One of the greatest ongoing challenges in smallholder agriculture is the lack of accurate data to track and measure impact. In addition, farmers themselves lack the data they need to improve productivity and profits. Smallholder Data Services (SDS) is a breakthrough technology, initially developed in Haiti, which generates high quality data that is owned and controlled by individual farmers. They use it to better manage their own farms, as well as being able to barter or sell data to those using their products or services. Two of the first applications of SDS will be to verify regenerative cotton production and track smallholder tree planting for carbon sequestration, initially focused on cotton and tree planting in Haiti for Timberland, but with applications for any smallholder crop and for clients beyond Timberland.
