Post-harvest loss is a challenge in Africa, where up to 60% of fresh produce spoils due to inadequate cold storage infrastructure. KaFresh addresses this by providing an affordable and scalable solution that can be easily implemented at various stages of the post-harvest supply chain just by spraying. By reducing spoilage, Siovalley not only makes more food available for farmers and the communities around them but also increases income and saves on storage/energy costs for farmers, exporters and informal market traders. Our formulation, KaFresh, is made from food waste sourced from farmers and informal market traders, offering a dual benefit: it repurposes otherwise discarded farm produce and mitigates carbon emissions that would have resulted from landfilling this waste. This sustainable alternative significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with food preservation from refrigerators and synthetic preservatives.
