Savanna Agro Growing together

Cover image of Savanna Agro, Crop farming venture on VC4A

Farmers in Mundri are still practicing subsistence farming with no market for their surplus – if any. This keeps them in the poverty line though producing food. Savanna agro is working with farmers to commercialize farming beginning with vegetable production. Savanna Agro has agro-input shop and contracts farmers to produce vegetables and buys from them and supply to the market in Juba. The first crop that Savanna Agro is dealing in is eggplants because they are highly marketable in Juba and easy to produce. To those who don’t have the capacity to buy the seeds, the company gives them then deduct the price of the seeds after production.

Also, the company buys cereals from farmers in Karika to supply to Juba market. Sometimes we use clothes to batter with the sorghum and maize.

The company is also involved in small scale eggplant production as a demonstration to the farmers.

We also work with MercyCorps to distribute inputs to farmers in their food security and livelihood prog
