Among the many ideas we would like to experiment with, we have chosen to focus on the problem of low penetration of renewable energy in urban residential areas. On the one hand, affordable electricity has been designated as a basic human right by the United Nations. However on the other had, the cost of electricity in many African countries is becoming unaffordable to communities living in low income neighborhoods.

At Rockland Energy, we strongly believe in the principle of equity and we are committed in ensuring that no person is left behind in the transition to clean energy irrespective of their financial status.

Consequently, we propose to tackle this problem of high electricity cost by developing a community solar energy system that will guarantee access to clean and reliable electricity at an affordable cost.

With support from local governments, we are confident that our solution can be easily replicated in multiple low income settlements across the continent.
