The local poultry farmer is unable to compete on the market due to high feed costs that make up 80% of the production cost.
The bioconversion of organic waste, that would have ended up in landfills and burnt by farmers, increasing carbon footprint, into a low cost, high protein product presents a lot of value to local poultry farmers. This lower cost significantly decreases their production cost and increases their competitiveness.
The outgrower scheme which operates by training farmers in adequate handling of waste, health and safety procedures to follow and pre-processing methods to use ensures that farmers who have successfully completed the training have a consistent source of income from monetizing their waste produced which in past times has always been a nuisance to them. Especially in a time where cost of materials and ingredients are rising up, the scheme produces a lot of value for farmers.
