Prime Biomedical Uganda Limited Provision of medical equipment monitoring and maintenance

It is estimated that 40%-80% of medical equipment in developing countries is non-functional. Faulty medical equipment is costing developing countries lots of money and makes it difficult for front line health workers to provide healthcare. In Uganda for instance, a value for money audit of selected health facilities found that equipment worth about 1.3 million USD lay unused. An effort has been made to train and deploy technicians but monitoring usage and functionality still remains a big challenge. Technicians have to travel blindly to make an assessment before going back to make repairs which wastes time and resources.

Our innovation is an automated Smart Medtech Management System (SMMS) is designed for real-time monitoring and automatic data logging of usage and location of medical devices. Front line health workers can also request service by the press of a button. This means that technicians can know if equipment is faulty or has been moved even before they go to the field.
