Planet Green Africa Clean cooking briquettes from agricultural waste

Cover image of Planet Green Africa, Biofuels venture on VC4A

Planet Green Africa produces Nyasa Moto, a cleaner cooking fuel made in Malawi from recycled agricultural waste. The briquettes provide an affordable alternative to charcoal and firewood for households, small businesses and institutional kitchens such as schools, hospitals, prisons and factories. The venture creates value from agricultural residues while helping reduce pressure on forests and supporting cleaner everyday cooking. Its model combines local production, community kiosks and women-led distribution to improve access to clean cooking fuel and create income opportunities in local communities. Planet Green Africa has received recognition and support through clean cooking, climate and enterprise platforms including Clean Cooking Alliance coverage, Energy Globe World Award 2023 selection, Commonwealth-Bangladesh Green Investment Award recognition, Growth Accelerator Malawi profiling and EEP Africa portfolio support.
