PIICKA is a super app that helps small-scale merchants and local shoppers in Africa’s open-air markets to optimize peer-to-peer payments by combining QR-based payments, fractional cart pooling & virtual commerce.
In Africa, over 90% of $1.4 trillion in retail transactions happen offline, this happens because although many African countries have strong commercial-trading cultures, these often operate informally, at open markets and roadside stalls rather than retail chains, or indoor malls. These informal markets are the lifeblood of local economies, yet they have been left behind in the digital age.
Africa’s informal retail market is estimated to be worth $850B, with food and
household essentials accounting for over 60% of total retail value. Our super app
has the potential to capture a significant portion of this market by digitizing
overlooked retail activities for open market and curb-side merchants in Africa.
