Obuntu Health is a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) which is a subsidiary of Obuntu Nation. An HMO is a type of health insurance plan which offers its members a vast range of health care services through its network of healthcare providers (doctors, pharmacies, Laboratories, imaging centers, etc) The providers enter into a contract with the HMO and agree to offer their services to the HMO subscribers at a set fee. Each member is assigned a Primary Care Physician (PCP) who is responsible for the management of the member’s health and makes referrals for the member to see a specialist as needed within the network. Since the focus is on preventative care rather than curative, HMO’s are able to offer their members lower premiums compared to other types of health insurance plans. Providers benefit from this kind of arrangement by having a lot of patients directed to them thus maximizing sales as opposed to profit.
