The problem we are trying to solve with MTela is the challenge of disseminating information and technology across more than a million farmers in Kenya where extension to farmer ratio is 1:1200.
This coupled with the existence of over 4,000 products and technologies ranging from seeds, to fertilizers, to pests and disease management, to post harvest, to services; the majority of which require training in order for farmers to understand when to use them, how to use them, and at what rates to use them.
Without a proper extension network and with extension agents having little ICT tools for their activities, technology dissemination becomes an uphill task.
Our solution helps farmers make sense of the 4,000 plus products by classifying and categorizing them into tens of classes and having farmers search through the database to get the product they require.
