Majority of the Ghanaian population live in rural communities where their livelihoods depend on smallholding agriculture. Smallholder farmers produce about 28.3% of GDP and 10% of all exports by value. However when it comes to crop production, majority of them having low productivity due to lack of inputs, mechanization services, extension and unpredictable weather.
