In Ghana, both the informal and formal sector supply of housing continues to be inadequate to meet the increasing demand. This has resulted in acute and persistent housing deficits — a situation that presents a complex mix of both challenges and opportunities. Ghana needs 85,000 housing units annually ( Works and Housing). Housing deficit is in excess of 1.2 million (Stated by the Government of Ghana) Housing supply is dominated by 1. informal sector operations with over 90% of the country’s housing stock built incrementally by homeowners.
