Zanzibar has been farming seaweed (seamoss) and exporting in bulk since the start of the industry in 1989. There are 25,000 seaweed farmers, out of which more than 80% are women. Currently the annual production is 11,000 tonnes in which 99% of it is being exported and less than 1% remains for local consumption and value addition (Msuya 2020). They produce a lot of seaweed but unfortunately they do not attempt to use it for their own health nor sale to local communities but rather produce for export. Despite the health-benefits it has.I have trained 3 groups of 60 women on the benefits of consuming seaweed, offered them skills to make varieties of healthy food-products through value-addition. I have offered deep-water seaweed-farming technology in adverse weather conditions that increases their production, improved their harvesting and storage methods to maintain quality and decrease post-harvest losses. 40 women are currently are currently making use of the knowledge
