As the footprints of food insecurity grow with increasing population and urbanization, the extent of healthier foods is questionable. One of scientific solution to this challenge is genetically modified crops which was developed to solve production problems specific to developing countries. A large consumer study covering 16 major consumer markets reported that 87% of consumers consider non-GMO foods ‘somewhat’, or ‘a lot’ healthier. They are willing to pay an additional $2.83 to $3.31 per Kg for GMO-free produce.
