In many cities in developing countries, especially those with poor power infrastructure e.g. Nairobi, when driving home or to the office, at the gate (with no automatic gate opening), one will:
(1.) Hoot / Honk to notify the security guard or family members on your arrival at the gates of premises; this will allow them to open the gate for you.
(2.)Arrive at the gate, alight from the vehicle open the gate, get back into the car and drive into the premises.
(3.)Make a call to someone who is on the premises (security guard or family member) to open the gate.
(4) The security guard peeps confirm the identity of the arrival before opening the gate.
