We are focused on achieving Goals 2 (No hunger) of the Sustainable Development Goals. This is important in Africa because about 200 million people go to bed hungry daily. The number of those malnourished is even more staggering. Again, the average recommended daily protein intake by FAO for an adult human is 35.6g but in Nigeria, the average daily intake is about 15g. Low animal productivity is largely responsible for this and directly associated with it is heat stress. This is simply an abrupt rise in environmental temperature that consequently impacts negatively on livestock. Through sensor technology, we have developed a product called ‘Pen keep’ programmed to monitor and regulate the temperature of animals’ environment. By regulating temperature, optimum productivity is ensured on a yearly basis for farmers. This will increase the profit accruable to them; the populace will have more affordable and quality protein while National health and productivity will improve.
