Smallholder farmers across Africa are financially excluded. These farmers usually have little to no forms of identity, as such they do not have access to the first step toward financial inclusion: access to a transaction account. This, in turn, results in farmers having a very little record of their financial transactions, assets, and liabilities and thus limits their ability to access much-needed credit to purchase certified farmer inputs and tools for mechanization.
