As in many developing countries, the burden of non communicable diseases is increasing rapidly in Ghana. Cancer, one of the most significant diseases is estimated at 16,600 cases occurring annually in Ghana. Crude estimates suggests that cancers are expected to continue increasing.
The Ministry of Health of Ghana has developed strategies aimed at Prevention, Early detection, Diagnosis and treatment, Palliative care, policy and advocacy in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.
The Erith community based specialty oncology pharmacies is a private initiative to support Government’s effort towards cancer control in all regions of Ghana.
The objectives are to:
1. Give patients prompt access to cancer medicines (oral anti-cancers) and social services at retail pharmacies that will be based in communities throughout the ten regions of Ghana.
2. To offer decent work and traininof pharmacy staff in specialty care.
