Eco Change Enterprise was established in 2020 with the mission to distribute proven alternative energy technologies to the marginalized communities in Malawi and beyond. To pilot the large employer guarantee solar home systems distribution targeting coffee and tea farmers in Nkhatabay district in Malawi. The enterprise would like to distributed over 1000 solar lanterns to the low-income households. The employer Mzuzu Coffee and Kawalazi Estate tea Company to deduct directly to these employees who will adopted the solar lanterns.
The target market is people living in tea and coffee estates who lack access to basic services like electricity, water, and sanitation. These estates dwellers are primarily rural migrants who have moved into the farms seeking a better life for themselves and their families. They earn on average $10 USD per day. Through the employer guarantee arrangement the business has potential because it adopts the system pay as you go with no defaulters to be registered
