DigiLearns In Nigeria, 2 out of 3 students are digitally excluded from accessing educational resources or online learning measures devised to address the learning disruption due to the COVID19 pandemic because they lack internet access, can’t afford data costs or do not own smartphones. While 70% of the 34 million Nigerian children that are currently out-of-school can not afford a radio, a television or a smartphone to learn online, the Nigerian Communications Commission shows that there are at least 1 to 2 basic feature phones in every home across Nigeria. The ubiquity of small feature phones presents a unique opportunity to deliver inexpensive, relevant and accessible learning content to millions of Nigerian children at home — during COVID-19 and beyond — without the barriers posed by data costs, smartphone access and internet connectivity. That potential of enabling remote, personalised and quality learning underlies the innovativeness of our solution which is accessible via SMS or USSD.
