Clafiya is a platform that connects patients to CHWs to provide fast and affordable home-based primary care services in peri-urban, and regions in Nigeria. For Patients: With a short Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code (which is available on any cell phone and doesn’t require internet connectivity to function), patients can register, pay, and request the nearest registered CHW to administer home-based primary care services, including antenatal and postnatal care. Health Workers: Are directly connected to people who need their services. They generate an income for themselves for each patient they visit – promoting social entrepreneurship by providing health care to the community and financial benefits for health workers. Clafiya is the first service of its kind to offer semi-urban, urban poor, and rural Nigerian patients an alternative to the high prices and long wait times of the existing health care system.
