Begue coco Towards a circular economy in Senegal, one coconut at a time

The Begue coco project aims to develop Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) semi-industrial activities
and coconut plantations in Senegal. It is a social enterprise that promotes environmental
sustainability through regeneration of abandoned farmland, healthy living with its all-natural
coconut products and economic development through the creation of small VCO and coconut
based artisanal products units with the communities where reforestation (coconut plantation)
occurs
The plantations will be used to create eco lodges for agritourism where the local cuisine and
culture will be promoted. The ecolodges will be built naturally with cob and clay, which
naturally present in the pedologic areas concerned. These places will also serve as a
springboard to disseminate knowledge in agroforestry and permaculture as well as to favorise
intergenerational exchange and sharing of knowledge and know-how.
