Nigeria spends about N600B yearly on smuggled frozen foods. Over the years, government has come up with various strategies to safeguard the health of its citizenry. Among such effort is the mandate given to Nigeria customs service to protect the nation’s boarder against smuggling of banned goods especially food items. However, because of the porous nature of the boarders, unwholesome food items still find their way to tables of many Nigerians and among such unwholesome food is the unhealthy poultry product.
SOLUTION: According to Poultry Association Nigeria (PAN) National President, 1.5M tonnes of poultry is been consumed yearly while production is estimated to be about 350,000 metric tonnes, this leaves us with a demand supply gap of 1.2M tonnes which is currently bridged through smuggling.
