Somalia Growth Enterprise Employment and Livelihoods Program (GEEL)

Providing Somali businesses with technical and investment assistance

GEEL is a USAID program to promote inclusive economic growth throughout Somalia,Somaliland and Puntland. GEEL is accelerating Somalia’s growing integration into the global economy through a combination of initiatives that improves the country’s competiveness; spurs new investments; and increases market linkages and business partnerships. The program boosts Somali exports of quality agriculture, fish, and non-pastoral livestock products; reduces reliance on inputs; increases access to affordable, renewable energy; and increases jobs in regions recovering from years of conflict and recent natural disasters.  Particular focus will be given to increase the participation of women and youth in the economy as entrepreneurs, employers, and employees.

GEEL is also strengthening the business enabling environment through improving access to finance, policy and regulation, and business development services.

The GEEL program is providing Somali businesses with technical assistance to develop their businesses and business skills, to improve their growth potential and reduce investment risk.  GEEL also provides investment assistance to prepare businesses for investment and support them through the transaction process.  GEEL seeks investors that are interested in considering Somali investment opportunities.
