Production, marketing and financing of our banana flour production facility
Banana flour is a powder traditionally made of green bananas. Historically, banana flour has been used in Africa as a cheaper alternative to wheat flour. It is now often used as a gluten-free replacement to wheat flours or as a source of resistant starch, which has been promoted by dieting trends and recent nutritional research, as highlighted in multiple studies.
In Zimbabwe, banana flour has shifted upwards from a cheaper alternative to wheat flour to an up-market, exclusive product. Since it’s production is no more expensive than wheat flour, this shift has nothing to do with economic fundamentals and everything to do with access to information on recent nutritional trends. Any mass market campaign must therefore be premised on the propagation of nutritional knowledge.
