Eskom is not simply committed to keeping the lights on – we are also focused on lighting up the lives of people across South Africa and the Eskom Development Foundation is tasked with implementing Eskom’s corporate social investment strategy.

Eskom Business Investment Competition (BIC)

In an effort to boost enterprise development, the Eskom Development Foundation has been running the annual Eskom Business Investment Competition (BIC) since 2008. The BIC provides a great platform for South African owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to become part of a community of like-minded entrepreneurs as they look to build on their businesses’ solid foundation and realise their true potential.

Black-owned, registered small and medium enterprises in the engineering/construction, manufacturing, agriculture/agri-processing as well as trade/services sectors that have been in operation for at least 24 months are eligible to enter.

Business Entrepreneurship and Franchise Expo

The Business Entrepreneurship and Franchise Expo runs for four days during September at the TicketPro dome in Northriding, Johannesburg.The four-day expo provides SMEs, businesses and franchisors with a versatile marketing platform from which to build brand awareness, interact with potential customers and investors as well as to generate media coverage.The Expo also serves as a platform that links entrepreneurs, suppliers, customers, investors and funders and allows them to explore a variety of investment prospects and franchise options.

On a deeper level, it is crucial that entrepreneurship education is supported in order to ensure that the youth play a part in strengthening the country’s economy through entrepreneurship. The Eskom Development Foundation aims to encourage this through its Eskom Simama Ranta Entrepreneurship Education High School Competition.
