The team has been named the most outstanding pitching start-up and will also receive a ticket to Lagos and accommodation catered for during the DEMO Africa 2015 event. Flippy is a product that improves campus experience by keeping students up to date on current campus happenings. Congrats to the Flippy Campus team!
After the first DEMO Africa pre-pitch events in Accra (Wednesday, June 10) and Nairobi (Friday, June 12), other pre-pitch events are scheduled to take place in Cairo (June 17) and Harare (June 24). Startups across Africa can still apply to DEMO Africa 2015 until June 30. For other applicants presenting at one of the roadshows is NOT a criterion for being selected for the 2015 DEMO Africa event in Lagos in September, all African tech startups are encouraged to apply.
The pre-pitch events will see start-ups receive feedback on their projects and stand a chance to pitch to a panel of hand-picked technology industry players. The most outstanding on these start-ups will get a direct nomination to DEMO Africa with ticket and accommodation fully paid for.
Commenting on the tours, DEMO Africa’s executive producer Harry Hare said that he is excited about interacting with various technology eco-systems in Africa. “Meeting various players gives us a better understanding of the start-up needs which in turn enables us to enrich the DEMO Africa platform with various lessons and experiences drawn.” Recently, Weza Tele, a DEMO Africa alumni, was acquired by AFD for over a million USD.
After Accra and Nairobi, the DEMO Africa team is also scheduled to make other stops in Cairo and Harare in the month of June. Start-up application for DEMO Africa is still ongoing following an extension of the deadline to June 30th 2015. Applications are being accepted in the 12 application categories which include: Agriculture, Health, Education, Manufacturing and Retail. Others are Media and entertainment, Communication, Transport and Logistics, Energy, Finance and Banking, Water and Sanitation, Waste Management and recycling.
DEMO Africa 2015 edition is scheduled to take place between 21st and 25th of September at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria. Delegate registration is already open and those wishing to attend can now register.
This year’s event is being organized in collaboration with the LIONS@FRICA partners (which include Microsoft, Nokia, US State Department, DEMO, USAID, African Development Bank, VC4Africa among others) and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies.
