VC4Africa believes entrepreneurship development in Africa can be accelerated when we connect a global network of knowledge and capital. On November 20th the VC4Africa community will host a global dialogue on African entrepreneurship and investment as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2014, building on the initiative we started last year. Signup to host one too with the form in this article!
On Thursday, November 20th, VC4Africa members from around the globe are taking the initiative to host a meetup in their own town. These informal networking events bring together entrepreneurs, angels and VC investors eager to contribute to the continent’s next great success story.
Last year the VC4Africa meetups we organised in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2013 attracted 2000 people at meetups in 26 cities in 20 countries. This year we’re looking for an even bigger outcome, and also introduce a central question at all the meetups:
“What do you see as actions to take (as an individual or with the wider community) to multiply investments in African startups over the next year?”
This question will play a role at all local meetups, and VC4Africa will collect the output from across the world.
We invite you to join this movement and initiate your own meetup! All events will be hosted on Thursday, November the 20th. Complete the form below to register your interest to participate in this global event and join our growing network of meetup organizers. After completing the form a representative from VC4Africa will respond to you shortly. A list of confirmed meetups will soon appear on the new VC4Africa GEW 2014 partner page!

What is a VC4Africa Meetup?
Second to networking online, VC4Africa makes use of the Barcamp model (an international network of user generated conferences – open, participatory workshop/events, whose content is provided by participants) to organize our very own series of VC4Africa Meetups. We like this open format because it means that anyone can participate. Any member of VC4Africa can organize a meeting in their area whenever they feel there is a need. As with all VC4Africa Meetups, they are simply a place for members to meet one another and share thoughts and ideas. No speeches, no agenda, nothing planned. The loose structure allows for lots of networking. Just remember, everyone is expected to pay for their own drinks : )
See an example here:
As VC4Africa we help you organize the meeting and promote it across our networks. More than 100 events have been hosted around the world including in Kigali, Kampala, Nairobi, Johannesburg, Lagos, Tunis, San Francisco, Atlanta, Washington DC, New York, London, Leuven, Amsterdam, and many more cities.
What is Global Entrepreneurship Week?
Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. The event takes place each November with 20,000 activities in 140 countries.
