PIVOT EAST is East Africa’s mobile startups pitching competition and conference held annually since 2011. The deadline to apply for Pivot East 2014 is this Friday, April 11th! This year’s pitching conference will be held on Tuesday June 24th.
PIVOT EAST is an initiative of m:lab East Africa focused on East Africa’s Mobile developer and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The competition has five categories: Mobile Finance, Mobile Enterprise, Mobile Entertainment, Mobile Society and Mobile Utility. Each category will feature five finalists who will pitch to an audience of Investors, Development Partners, Government Representatives, Telecom Operators and other key mobile industry players from East Africa.
25 finalists in the competition will receive training, coaching and mentorship on how to arrive at repeatable and scalable business models. The finalists will also receive training and coaching on how to pitch to investors. The five category winners will attract investment from the m:lab. PIVOT East is the primary route for startups to secure support through the m:lab’s residential and virtual incubation programs.
The PIVOT EAST organizers have announced a partnership with technology hubs across East Africa for 2014 to help ensure that the best entrepreneurs and developers in different countries in the region take part in the PIVOT East 2014 competition. The hubs include Outbox (Uganda), Hive Colab (Uganda), Kinu (Tanzania), Buni (Tanzania), kLab (Rwanda), iceaddis (Ethiopia),iBiz Africa (Kenya) and C4DLab (Kenya).
