On March 31st and April 1st the EU-Africa Business Forum will be held in Brussels, back-to-back with the EU-Africa Heads of State Summit where African and European political leaders will meet. On Monday, March 31st, VC4Africa is co-hosting one of the key Roundtables at the EU-Africa Business Forum – on the supply of risk capital for new enterprises – together with the Social Venture Capital (SOVEC) investment fund, part of the VC4Africa Investor Network.
On April 2nd and 3rd, African and EU Heads of State and other political leaders will come together in Brussels for the 4th EU-Africa Summit, focused on the theme “Investing in People, Prosperity and Peace”. Leading up to this the 5th EU-Africa Business Forum will take place in Brussels, attended by African and European business leaders.
For the first time this Forum features an event for showcasing success stories of African SMEs and an opportunity for countries to profile their investment opportunities to a panel of investors. The Forum will function around a rotation of plenary sessions and roundtables; the VC4Africa community will co-host the Roundtable on the supply of risk capital for new enterprises – together with the Social Venture Capital (SOVEC) investment fund, part of the VC4Africa Investor Network. Other Roundtables (12 in total) will focus on Success stories from Africa, Incubating sustainable energy enterprises, ICT for agriculture, Social entrepreneurship, and much more. Each roundtable will bring together about 30 participants and will generate recommendations.
VC4Africa and SOVEC invited a number of SMEs from the VC4Africa network, and also a big number of other relevant discussants. VC4Africa founder Ben White explains: “Our Roundtable is dedicated to identifying pragmatic approaches and solutions needed to further accelerate the growth and development of the Africa SME segment as a viable investment class.”
The EU-Africa Business Forum is attended by African and European business leaders representing the full corporate spectrum from small and medium-scale enterprises to multi-national corporations, and supported by both the African Union Commission and the European Commission. The Forum’s influential speakers and participants include African Union Commission Chairman Zuma, European Commission President Barroso, Celtel and Mo Ibrahim Foundation Founder Mo Ibahim, African billionailre and investment tycoon Naguib Sawiris, Citadel Capital CEO and Founder Ahmed Heikal, and many other high profile participants. International media anchors and reporters will moderate the debates.
