WHAT IS ANII?

The National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) is a government entity that promotes research and the application of new knowledge to the productive and social reality of the country. ANII makes available to the public funds for research projects, scholarships for national and international postgraduate degrees and incentive programs for innovative culture and entrepreneurship, both in the private and public sectors. ANII developed the National System of Researchers, a program of economic incentives to national researchers categorized based on a strict evaluation system. I also create the Timbo Portal, which allows free access to all kinds of scientific publications from around the world for all Uruguayans. The ANII functions as a mechanism for articulation and coordination among the actors involved in the development of knowledge, research and innovation.

MISION AND VISION

The National Agency for Research and Innovation is born in 2006 in response to the growing focus on innovation and the need to promote the development of technical and professional knowledge in the country from the public sector, and to encourage the management and development of innovative enterprises whose application benefits the entire population.

VISION

Being a key player in the permanent construction of an equitable, democratic and competitive society based on knowledge and innovation as pillars of sustainable development through the implementation of public policies in research and innovation.

MISION

The mission of ANII is to implement the State’s policy-strategic guidelines on research and innovation by promoting, articulating and strengthening the capabilities of the National Innovation System to achieve the country’s productive and social development.
